Mapua, UPD tops 2022 Geology licensure exams

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 154 of 306 examinees passed the November 2022 Geology licensure examinations, said the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on Thursday.

The Geology Licensure exams were held on November 15 to 17, 2022 in testing centers in Metro Manila.

Two students tied at first place on the list of examinees that topped the exam, Lawrence Glen Fulgar Sabaria of Mapua University-Manila and Tiffany Ashley Falsis Uy of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, who both scored 83.70 percent.

At second place is another graduate of UP Diliman, Editha Rose Buhay Chavez who scored 83 percent, followed by Ken Adrian Cupay Villarias from the University of Southeastern Philippines-Davao City who scored 83 percent.

Meanwhile, UP Diliman was named as the top performing school of the said examinations after ending with a passing rate of 92.50 percent.

FICS Faculty Member wins Michele Steele Best of JALT 2021 Award



Dr. Roberto Figueroa, Assistant Professor of the UP Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS), won the Michele Steele Best of JALT 2021 Award for his contribution to the Mixed Augmented Virtual Realities in Learning Special Interest Group (SIG) and an outstanding article. The MSBoJ 2022 ceremony was held during the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT) International Conference in Fukuoka, Japan on 11-14 November 2022.

The study “Virtualizing a University Campus Tour: A Pilot Study on its Usability and User Experience, and Perception,” which is also published in the second volume of the International Journal in Information Technology in Governance, Education, and Business (IJITGEB) tackles the use of virtual reality (VR) as an alternative to the traditional physical campus tours in the International Christian University (ICU). They found out that the VR campus tour can complement and augment traditional campus tours.

The article is co-authored by Gibran Alejandro Garcia Mendoza, Jennifer Christine Clasara Fajardo, Siaw Eng Tan, Eiman Yassin from ICU Japan, and Teo Hui Thian from PETRONAS Leadership Centre, Malaysia.

The Michele Steele Best of JALT Awards is a program that was started to honor the speakers who make JALT events such valuable experiences. For the past 10 years the award has been given renewed importance and significance for the recipients.

It’s 100% passing rate for UPLB in NDLE!



All graduates of UPLB’s BS Nutrition who took the October 2022 Nutritionist-Dietitian Licensure Examination (NDLE) passed the said exam.

This is the 14th year in which NDLE takers from UPLB have accomplished this feat and have brought unparalleled and distinct honor to the University.

With this, UPLB was named by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) as the top-performing school in the country in nutrition and dietetics. It ranked first among three universities that had 30 or more examinees taking the NDLE and from whom at least 80% passed.

Placing 4th is Giuliana Solano Medina who inked a rating of 89.65%; followed by Kioh Cerez Monato, 7th place with an average of 89.35%.

Rounding out the topnotchers from UPLB is Ceres Natalie Bandayrel Basuel, with an average of 89.05%.

According to PRC, out of 1114 takers, 719 or 64.54% passed the NDLE. (Kristel Hope T. Villafuerte)

UP School of Health and Sciences-Leyte tops November 2022 Midwife licensure exam



A graduate from the University of the Philippines School of Health and Sciences – Leyte bested 1,768 who successfully hurdled the October 2022 Midwife Licensure Examination, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced.

Jonathan Calunsag Gatela Jr. gained a percentage rating of 90.10 while Marielle Luceño Oberio from Iloilo Doctors’ College made it to second place (90.05).

UP Manila graduate tops October 2022 Physician Licensure Examination



MANILA, Philippines — A University of the Philippines (UP) Manila College of Medicine graduate topped the 2022 Physician Licensure Examination, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced on Thursday.

Justin Adriel Zent Gautier Togonon led the list of passers with a rating of 89.00%, followed by another UP Manila graduate, Francesca Marie Aby Lagrosa, who scored 88.75%.

Togonon graduated magna cum laude in his medical degree and class valedictorian in UP Manila College of Medicine.

A total of 3,826 examinees out of 5,958 passed the PLE held last month.

Here are the top ten passers of the PLE with their respective schools and ratings, according to the PRC.

Dr. Rolly G. Fuentes wins 1st place in the regional search for Outstanding Novice Health Researcher Award



Congratulations to Dr. Rolly G. Fuentes for winning 1st place in the regional search for Outstanding Novice Health Researcher Award. This award was given by the Eastern Visayas Research and Development Consortium (EVHRDC) during the Regional Health Research Symposium held from November 9-10, 2022 at Summit Hotel, Tacloban City. Dr. Fuentes received a cash prize and a plaque.

The Outstanding Novice Health Researcher Award is conferred to individuals who have made a significant contribution to health research. This award is given to young researchers not exceeding the age of 40 at the time of nomination.

Dr. Fuentes is a Professor 2 of Chemistry in the division. He was awarded the UP Scientist 1 from 2019 to 2021. His research interest is in natural products chemistry (pharmacognosy).

University of the Philippines Manila graduates top the October 2022 Physician Licensure Exam.

Justin Adriel Zent Gautier Togonon topped the list of passers with a rating of 89.00%, followed by Francesca Marie Aby Lagrosa, who scored 88.75%.

Also on the topnotchers’ list are Trisha Marie Ramos at seventh, Christopher Tabora Pilarta at eighth, and Christine Bernadette Orfano Lo at tenth.

UP alumni receive 2022 TOWNS Award

Eight awardees who studied in the University of the Philippines (UP) were among the eleven recipients of the 2022 The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) Awards given by the TOWNS Foundation, Inc. The awarding night was held on October 24 at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.

According to the TOWNS’ website, the award is given to Filipinas who have shown outstanding dedication, exceptional talent, and a history of contributing positively to society. This includes strengthening national capability, shaping the nation’s future, and serving as catalysts for economic, social and cultural development, national security, and national unity.
