SUMMARY:The Price of Civil Disobedience in the EDSA Revolution: From the Case of Nonpayment of Meralco Bill
DESCRIPTION:Kuryente bills and EDSA revolution. words we do not often hear together when we talk about our history and what this month’s opener will discuss.\n\nJoining us next week is Shinji Miyagawa\, who will present The price of civil disobedience in the EDSA revolution: From the case of “nonpayment of Meralco bill”.\n\nSee you on Wednesday\, 07th February 2024\, 12pm-1pm at Albert Hall Seminar Room 2.\n\nWant to invite a friend who is not on fb? send them this link instead: https://archaeology.upd.edu.ph/…/binalot-talks-price…\n\nAbstract\n\nCory Aquino called for civil disobedience during the EDSA revolution. One way of civil disobedience was the nonpayment of electricity bills to Meralco\, which was then controlled by the Marcos cronies. After the revolution\, however\, civil disobedience deteriorated people’s morale on electricity use\, resulting in an increase in electricity pilferage.\n\nYou may bring your lunch and eat during the talk.\nPS. on coffee: we encourage bringing of own cups/tumblers to lessen use of disposables.\n\nSource: Binalot Talks Facebook group

ERLIDIA LLAMAS-CLARK\nClinical Associate Professor\, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology\nUP – Philippine General Hospital\n\nReactor:\nDR. INA IRABON\nReproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Specialist\,\nAsian Hospital and Medical Center\nPerpetual Help Medical Center\n\n———————————————————–\n\nJanuary 26\, 2024 (Friday) 12nn\nWebinar #178\n“Ligtas ba sa kalusugan ang ating mga kagamitan?”\nHow Chemicals Affect Our Hormones Every Day\n\nIn recent years\, an invisible menace has infiltrated our daily lives\, affecting our well-being in ways we may not fully comprehend – endocrine disruptors. Endocrine disruptors are compounds that interfere with the delicate balance of hormones in the endocrine system\, leading to a cascade of effects that touch every aspect of our physiological and reproductive functions. From common household items to industrial byproducts\, these pervasive disruptors lurk in unexpected places\, exposing us to potential health risks that demand our attention.\n\nIn this webinar\, we will look into the sources\, mechanisms\, and consequences of the presence of endocrine disruptors in our environment. We will explore the broad spectrum of these disruptors\, ranging from synthetic chemicals to natural substances\, and examine their ability to mimic or interfere with hormones crucial to our development and well-being.\n\nOur distinguished panel of experts will discuss the latest research findings\, connecting the dots between endocrine disruptors and various health issues\, including reproductive disorders\, metabolic disturbances\, and developmental abnormalities. Our main presenter is Dr. Erlidia Llamas-Clark\, who is a Professor and Attending Consultant from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology\, UP-Philippine General Hospital. Our reactor is Dr. Ina Irabon\, who is a practicing reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialist at the Asia Hospital and Medical Center as well as at the Perpetual Help Medical Center.\n\nTogether\, we will explore potential strategies to mitigate the impact of endocrine disruptors on human health\, fostering a collective commitment to creating healthier environments for ourselves and future generations.\n\nAnd together\, we can stop preventable deaths!

SUMMARY:CordiTex Talks (Islands Entangled: Tracing Kuzu in Japan\, Philippines and Hawai'i)
DESCRIPTION:CORDITEX TALKS\nISLANDS ENTANGLED: TRACING KUZU IN JAPAN\,\nPHILIPPINES AND HAWAI’I\n\nRebecca Maria Goldschmidt\nHiroshima City University\, Japan\nJanuary 26\, 2024 (Friday)\n10:00-11:30 via Zoom\n\nThe CORDITEX project team is pleased to have Rebecca Maria Goldschmidt\, artist\, cultural worker and doctoral student at the School of Fine Arts in Hiroshima City University\, Japan. Rebecca’s research explore the connections between the cultural materials and histories of Japan\, Philippines and Hawaiʻi via the plant kuzu 葛 (kudzu or Pueraria montana var. lobata). Kuzu has historical use in Asia as a bast fiber and used in handloom weaving\, but is mostly known worldwide as a highly invasive plant species.\n\nShe will share her experience with kuzu in Japan; its historical importance as a fiber and medicine. Kuzu’s presence in these three distinct locations can help us reveal how the complex histories of war\, labor\, migration\, and ecological crisis affect the ways people relate to plants and their environments.\n\nTo register to the webinar\, click the link below:\nhttps://up-edu.zoom.us/…/WN_2lK5q_uXR3ipg96R-DRdRg…\n\nSource: CordiTex Facebook
